Dear Health Enthusiasts,

Happy 2005! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Have you made your New Year's Resolutions? Maybe your resolutions this year included something about improving your health or losing weight. Or maybe your resolutions including improving your financial outlook in 2005. If you would like help with any of these goals, I would be happy to schedule a time to meet with you by phone or email so that we can discuss your options.

For this month's Feature Article, I have gone into the topic of diabetes. I feel that diabetes is a growing epidemic that shows no signs of slowing. This article discusses the natural alternatives to help prevent and reverse Type II diabetes.

*******Feature Products*******

Cascara Sagrada & Psyllium Hulls- Save $4.00 when buying both. Available to Subscribers Only.

Cascara Sagrada [Intestinal], known as sacred bark, is one of Nature’s Sunshine’s most popular herbal products. As a nutritional support for proper waste elimination, the bark has been used by cultures around the world. Cascara Sagrada acts as an herbal laxative, influences intestinal contraction and supports a clean, healthy colon.

Psyllium Hulls [Intestinal]. Psyllium is also referred to as plantago. It has the highest level of soluble fiber known—more than eight times that of oat bran. Encapsulated psyllium hulls are a convenient way to add essential fiber to the daily diet. Psyllium hulls can play an important part in helping the body maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range, and they support cardiovascular health.

President Bush recognizes the health benefits of chromium towards diabetes and urges further research into its capabilities.

When I wrote my book on chromium 15 years ago (Chromium: A Lesson In Nutrition), I discovered that GTF chromium (chromium polynicotinate) was a safer form of the mineral than the picolinate form. I also reported that this mineral could dramatically curtail the need for drugs to keep blood sugar under control. It appears that the traditional medical community has finally caught up! *******Ask The Herb Specialist*******

Q. My vet has been prescribing "Licorice Root Extract" for my 7pound Yorkie
for his hyperactive skin irritations. He is constantly biting &
scratching even tho' I use a shampoo of avacado and aloe. It seems to have
lessened in effectiveness lately. Do you have a better choice to recomend?. -Susan S.

A. You may want to consider trying liquid Flax Seed Oil. I have seen this given to pets that had similar conditions with drastic improvements in the condition. You can simply pour a bit on the food he is already fed. -Nicole Bandes, CHS
