Lactobaccillus
against Arthritis
Probiotics
(friendly bacteria, such as acidophilus) have beneficial effects
not only for infectious and inflammatory diseases of bowel disorders,
but also for arthritis.
New research confirms
that probiotic bacteria can ameliorate inflammation found in arthritis.
In this study, it was
shown that there is a remarkable preventive and curative effect
on arthritis using commercial yogurts containing lactobacilli.
Test animals fed yogurt containing lactobaccilus have a milder
arthritic inflammation.
Research has been changing
the view of bacteria that live in the gut. Live bacteria (probiotics)
or nondigestible oligosaccharids (prebiotics, which feed the friendly
bacteria) promote the health of the colonic ecosystem. And now
we know it also affects arthritic inflammation.
